A Laptop Thinner than Macbook Air - 10 years ago

Sony VAIO X505 vs Macbook Air

Following the Top 10 Flaws of the Macbook Air, this is another post critiquing Apple's latest ultraportable laptop.

During the 2008 Keynote presentation, Steve Jobs compared the Macbook Air to Sony's TZ series, stating that "When people think thin and ultraportable, they think of the Sony TZ series". What he failed to mention was Sony's discontinued X series. In particular, the X505 which was released FOUR YEARS AGO shares many characteristics with the new Macbook Air. Nor did Steve Jobs mention Mitsubishi's Pedion released TEN YEARS AGO which is just 0.72 inches throughout.

Let's take a look at the Sony VAIO X505 and compare it with the Macbook Air. We're discussing physical attributes here, not performance or speed because those are completely dependent on time. ( i.e. Sony 4 years ago obviously couldn't have a 1.6 C2D processor).

Get Featured on Fechr

Get Featured by FechrHere's an interesting new site. Fechr (pronounced "feature") will feature your site on their home page (with a small header from them) for an entire 24 hours if you write a post about them. It's only free for a limited time and after that they will charge $5 which is a very minimal fee assuming they don't increase it in the future as their site gets more popular. Currently they claim to get around 500 hits a day which isn't bad. Props on the name creativity. I thought I had seen all possible Web2.0-y names but they managed to come up with this one that's a great idea but it looks like it should be pronounced "fetcher". One more gripe I have are the Buttongenerator.com buttons. Never really been a fan of that web service but I guess whatever works! ...

Wow check out slick keyboard; I'd imagine typing on glass would be pretty hard - but for pimp factor alone I'd buy one. I wonder why they didn't make the whole thing glass (as opposed to just the middle). Anyway check out the full story with more pics here

Sony Ericsson has quickly become the new hotness in the cell phone world, mainly due to their quick and stable user interface and rich feature set. Recently they announced the new S500i which is one of sony's new slim sliders.

The Sony Ericsson S500i can set in-phone themes and external light effects to change as day turns to night or when the weekend begins. Hidden illumination appears to highlight a certain event and the keypad glows when the slim slider is opened. With the 2.0-megapixel camera users can share moments as they happen, taking photos and blogging it directly. The S500i offers more than aesthetics with a media player and expandable Memory Stick slot, Sony Ericsson Disc2Phone music management software has everything users need to transfers favorite music from a PC to the phone. When the S500i is connected, it appears as a drive on the computer. It also features Bluetooth 2.0, giving fast, robust connection to other Bluetooth devices.

Look for the Sony Ericsson s500i later this summer, I'll definatly be picking it up
